Painting Picture Frame Backings
The other day, I was pondering whether I could simply paint the backing of a picture frame, so that i could easily frame my paintings?
Turns out, it is, with the right backing of course.
Many picture frame backings have the pins from the support leg poking through to the front side. With some paint and a perposefully placed flower centres, I think I have hidden the pins quite well in this painting. Although, I imagine over time the pins (if the support leg is fiddled with too often) might break through the layers of paint. Time will tell with this tester.
However, I would say this one was a success and I will be trying this idea more in the future.
What I like about this is that it gives me the opportunity to use all different sized second hand picture frames, without the need for glass to frame my picture.
The other option I want to explore is painting on thin mdf and framing that using old picture frames. Keep and eye out for framed paintings as they pop up in my online shop.
Until next time, happy making!
